Matt is here to give you an easy
tutorial for the "Original Pokémon Theme Song".
Let's go to the piano and check
this one out.
Before we begin, it's important to know that this is just an
excerpt of the music.
We're going to be starting using the pickup notes in
measure sixteen going into measure seventeen.
You can find the sheet music in the link below
in the description
Great, let's learn the entire right hand
for this song.
To start, I'm going to show you the position we'll be using very frequently for this.
It looks sort of like an F position where all of our
fingers are on white notes except we're
going to stretch our thumb down to E
instead of F.
Creating a position that's made up of E G A B and C.
Find that position and remember it, because we are going to go back to it a few times in this song.
To start, we're going to have to learn our pickup measure.
To count this out correctly, I'm going to count 2 beats of rest,
and then a half beat
of rest and come in on the & of 3 like this:
1-& 2-& 3-&
1-& 2-& 3-'Pokémon'
Let's move on to the next measure and talk about the
rhythm that we're going to see.
This rhythm sounds like this:
1 2-& 3 4
Rest, 2-& 3 4
Once you have that rhythm down, we can add the
notes to it. It'll sound like this:
Rest, E E G A
Once you've practiced that a few
times, we can move on to the next measure.
Let's start with the rhythm one more
time. This rhythm will sound like this:
1 2 3-& 4-&
Practice that a few times and then we can talk about the notes.
This measure is going to have our first position change.
We're going to start in our
sort of funny-looking
position with E and G spread out skipping the F,
but halfway through the measure we need to move down
to a standard C major
pentascale.
So let's practice starting here, and then
just very quickly moving to a C major position.
The most important thing is
that we get our pinkie on this G because
that's the first note we're going to
play when we move to our new position.
Here are the notes:
G A G E D C
I would
practice G A G,
and stop, making sure that you play that second G with your pinky.
G A G
Once you have that down, you can add the rest of the notes.
G A G E D C
Nicely done.
Let's check out the rhythm for the next measure.
We'll start with a rest, a
half rest, and we'll come in on the & of 2.
This is what this rhythm will sound like:
1-& 2-& 3-& 4
Here it is again:
1-& 2-& 3-& 4
At this point, we'll have moved
back to our first position
with our 2nd finger on G.
Here it is with the notes:
1-& 2 G A B C
Practice that a few times, and then move on to the next
measure.
You'll notice that we have a skip in this next measure.
We will need to move positions though because we already have the skip in our funny-looking position.
the rhythm sounds like this:
like this 1 2 3-& 4-&
Here it is with the notes:
B A G E G A
Nice!
Once we have those four measures
we could try putting them together.
Here it is all together.
1-& 2-& 3 E G A rest
E E G A
G A G E D C rest,
rest, G A B C
B A G E G A
This time try playing along with me.
I'll count you in by giving you 1 2 3,
and then we'll come in on the &
of 3 with our thumb E note.
1 2 3 E G A rest,
E E G A G A
G E D C rest,
rest, G A B C
B A G E G A
This is a great
opportunity to pause the video
and practice anything that you didn't get
the first time.
Pause the video, try it a few more times,
and then unpause the video when you're ready to move on to the next four measures.
Got it? Awesome. Let's move on to the next
four measures.
We'll start with the rhythm of the fifth bar. Sounds like this:
1 2 3 4
This rhythm is pretty easy, just make sure that you hold out the half note that comes in on beat 2.
Don't release it too early.
For this part,
we're going to need to shift our hand.
I'm going start with my pinkie on A, and
play both of these A's with my pinkie like this:
1 A 3 A
Just like that.
For the next measure the rhythm will sound like this:
1 2 3 4-&
For these notes, we're gonna have to stretch our thumb
one note down so you'll notice that I'm
going to play these next few notes with my
4th finger,
my 2nd finger and then I'll stretch my thumb down
to get C. Just like this:
4 2 1
but then at the very end of the measure,
I'll scoot ...
